What is #GivingTuesday?

Halloween has passed and the holiday cheer is among us, before we know it Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the rest of the special days are heavily awaited.  One of the special days that is rapidly approaching is #GivingTuesday.

#GivingTuesday originated in 2012 as a response to the height of consumerism experienced on Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a way to bring people together around the values of service and giving back to their communities.

After the biggest shopping days of the year, #GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities, and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.

This year, WomenRising will be participating in #GivingTuesday to provide Hudson County residents with the opportunity to give back to members of their community on this national day. A donation as small as $25 can provide WomenRising clients with the basic needs necessary to lead a safe and comfortable life.

In order for WomenRising clients to focus on feeling empowered and becoming self-sufficient, their basic needs must be met. A donation this #GivingTuesday to WomenRising will help us provide our clients with basic needs like diapers, food, and toiletries so that they can then begin their path towards safe, productive, and fulfilling lives.

#GivingTuesday helps restore balance to the beginning of the holiday season, highlighting the generosity of people around the world to bring about real change in their communities.  So join nonprofits, civic organizations, businesses, and corporations and unite with countries around the world by sharing the capacity to care for and empower one another.
