WomenRising, Inc. has some volunteer opportunities, including activities with children and adults, in social, educational and recreational settings. We also have many opportunities for volunteers to use their handyperson skills, especially doing such things as painting and cleaning.
WomenRising, Inc. values contributions made on a volunteer basis, however great or small, just as long as there is a match between the contribution being offered and our organizational and client needs.
WomenRising, Inc. can accommodate both individuals and groups of volunteers, depending upon the activity.

Gifts in Kind
As a community-based organization we greatly depend on the community for donations, contributions and support. Over the years we have greatly benefited from wonderful donations; however, we have also received inappropriate, broken, worn-out, and disheveled items. In an effort to ensure that our clients receive the quality items they deserve, we have created the following policy to be used as a guide:
Needed Items:
Gently Used/Good Condition – furniture, appliances, pots, pans, dishes, silverware, microwaves, televisions, radios, DVD players, computers, printers, luggage, air conditioners, baby highchairs, swings, pack-n-plays and car seats.
New– children’s clothes, toys, games, puzzles, children’s books, school and art supplies, bed linens (twin & crib size), pillows, blankets, towels, throw rugs, toiletries, cosmetic items, children’s video tapes/DVDs, diapers, baby food and formula.
Drop Off Information:
Please call to find out if your donation is needed. Donations can be delivered by appointment ONLY Monday through Friday between the hours of 9AM – 5PM. Please make arrangements with an agency representative by calling 201/333-5700. There are various departments with a multitude of needs. You may specify donation destination or make a general donation.
**In most instances WomenRising is unable to pick up donations, due to insufficient transportation.
**Although there is often a need for furniture and large items in the Battered Women’s Shelter, Project Home and client use due to storage issues, we can not usually accept larger items unless they are needed right away.
Thank you letters:
Thank you letters are sent to all donors. Please provide an agency representative with your
mailing address. The letter sent in response to your donation will list the donated items, but no monetary values will be included.
