Project Connect
Project Connect is a community outreach program serving women receiving public
assistance to help them understand their rights and responsibilities as welfare
recipients, and to reconnect them to NJ's WorkFirst system, training opportunities,
support services and transportation.
Project Connect counselors visit clients in the home to:
- Identify what people need to start working
- help remove barriers that threaten the continuation of clients' cash assistance
and other TANF-related benefits
- provide follow-up services to help clients continue their job search
- provide transportation services, as needed, to keep important appointments
with case managers or other service providers
- make referrals to childcare, training programs, educational programs and
other community services
- help with problems like domestic violence, substance abuse or parent-child
conflicts through referrals to service providers.
Who's eligible?
- Residents of Hudson County who are receiving TANF and/or related benefits.
- Clients are referred by county-contracted schools and service providers
and by the county's welfare department.
Cost?
The program is free.
